The Joy of Hosting. Without the Hassle…..General Manager Update, May 2026.
At Castle View, one of the things I care most about is making sure people feel this is genuinely their home, not somewhere they’ve moved into and have to adapt to, but somewhere that adapts to them.
That’s especially true when it comes to hosting.
What I love is that our homeowners don’t stop doing the things they’ve always done. They still bring people together, celebrate milestones, catch up with friends, and organise the moments that matter to them. The difference is, here, they’ve got a bit more space, a bit more flexibility, and a team behind them to help make it all happen.
I often say: if you can host it at home, you can probably do even more with it at Castle View.
Sometimes it’s something small but important. We’ve had homeowners host meetings with a financial adviser or solicitor; nothing flashy, just a quiet, comfortable space where they can sit down and have a proper conversation without needing to travel anywhere. Spaces like the Library or Private Dining Room work really well for that.
Other times, it’s something much bigger….
We’ve had everything from small family dinners to full-scale celebrations with dozens of guests. One homeowner hosted an 80th birthday for a close friend, and we had people travelling into Windsor to be part of it. It had a real buzz about it……exactly the kind of atmosphere you’d hope for, just without the stress of organising it all on your own.
Flexibility is Key
The nice thing is, there’s no “set way” to do any of this. Some people like to use the shared spaces – the Private Dining Room for a special meal, the Bistro for something more relaxed, or the Sky Lounge and Terrace when they want to make the most of the views and host something a bit bigger.
Others prefer to host in their own apartment, which I completely understand. The apartments here are larger than most people expect, and there’s something special about welcoming people into your own space. We’re still here in the background if needed, but it’s very much their front door, their rules.
And that’s the key point for me; these aren’t events we’re putting on. They’re not part of a schedule or a programme. They come from the homeowners themselves. We just help bring them to life.
We’ve seen some brilliant examples of that. A celebration of 50 years of friendship that was clearly very meaningful to everyone involved. Local WI meetings being hosted here by one of our homeowners, which brings a real sense of connection with the wider community. Family gatherings that range from a handful of people to much larger occasions.
We’ve also supported celebrations of life, which are incredibly important moments for families. Sometimes that’s a small, private gathering of close relatives, and other times it’s something much bigger, with 100 or more people coming together. In those situations, we work closely with families, including external caterers if needed, to make sure everything feels right.
Our Approach
From our side, it’s about making things easy. We can provide the space at no cost, and we’re always on hand to help with food, invitations, decorations, staffing…whatever’s needed. Some homeowners want to be very hands-on, others prefer us to take more of the strain. Either way, we fit around them.
I think that’s why it works so well. You’re not dealing with a faceless venue or starting from scratch, you’re in a place you already know, with people who know you.
One of the most rewarding things for me is seeing how guests react. We often hear how much they’ve enjoyed being here, and more than once, someone has come along to an event and ended up looking into moving themselves. That tells you a lot about the feel of the place.
At the end of the day, it comes back to independence. My job (and my team’s job) is to make sure people can carry on living the life they want, with the reassurance that support is there when they need it.
Whether it’s a quiet meeting, a family dinner or a big celebration, it’s their home. We’re just here to help them make the most of it.
