Happy New Year!
The festive season at Castle View has always been special, but this year felt truly extraordinary – a real celebration of friendship, kindness and community spirit here in Windsor.
As the decorations come down and the last mince pies are enjoyed, it feels the perfect moment to reflect on what we have shared together and to look ahead to an exciting 2026 calendar
This is also the first in a new series of regular updates from me, Kevin Rose, your General Manager, focusing on the life, energy and support that make Castle View such a warm and welcoming place to live.
Looking back at the festive period
This Christmas felt busy in all the right ways – plenty going on, but still time for quieter conversations and familiar routines. The lounges were well used, there was a steady stream of family visitors, and it was noticeable how many homeowners made sure neighbours were included in plans.
What stood out most was how naturally people supported one another: checking in on someone who had been unwell, walking together to events, or simply making space at a table. None of this is formally organised, but it matters just as much as anything on the calendar.
Day‑to‑day support and routine
Now that the decorations are away, life has settled back into its usual rhythm – and that rhythm is often what gives people most comfort. Regular chats in the lounge, seeing the same faces at reception and knowing there is help on hand when needed all contribute to a sense of ease around the building.
As a team, the focus is on keeping things straightforward: clear communication, practical support when it is required, and enough going on that people can join in as and when they feel like it, rather than feeling obliged.
January in the Sky Lounge
January’s programme is a good example of this balance. We have already hosted our first event, with Professor Kevin Walsh’s passionate oration about William Herschel, whose work in nearby Slough changed how we understand the night sky – a nice link to local history as well as science.
Our Wednesday evening films include “Pantoland” on the 14th, “The Club that George Built” on the 21st, and “Great Opera Arias” on the 28th, all in the Sky Lounge. The Skylarks will also meet on Thursday 22 January at 3pm, offering another chance to catch up with familiar faces and welcome anyone new who would like to come along.
Looking ahead through 2026
Beyond January, there is a full year of talks, screenings and social get‑togethers planned, with more being added as ideas come in. Some will be larger, more organised occasions; others will be simple opportunities to sit together, watch something interesting or share a meal.
The intention is not to fill every hour but to provide enough variety that most people see something that appeals to them over the course of a month. Suggestions are always welcome, and many of the best events start with a homeowner saying, “Could we try…?”
A regular update from Kevin
This is the first of what will be a regular update from me, giving a straightforward view of life at Castle View rather than a sales pitch. Future notes will pick up on small stories – a successful event, a new group starting, or a change that people have asked for – as well as flagging what is coming up.
