Castle View’s craft group is celebrating a proud moment after winning first prize in the Knitted Item with a Botanical Theme category at the Royal Windsor Flower Show.
This was the group’s first time entering the event, making the recognition all the more special.
The winning piece, a handcrafted poppy wreath, was created collaboratively by homeowners who attend the weekly Castle View craft group. Designed as a community project, the wreath will take centre place in Castle View’s Remembrance Sunday display for years to come.
The craft group is just one of many regular activities that contribute to the vibrant community at Castle View. Alongside crafts, homeowners can take part in a wide range of social groups including singing, gardening and games such as Rummikub, all of which play a part in making life at the development so enjoyable and fulfilling.
In addition to the category win, Castle View submitted a wide range of individual and group entries across knitting, crochet, cross stitch, quilting, feltwork, toy making, and painting. The group also showcased two larger collaborative pieces: an Alan Titchmarsh-themed postbox topper and a knitted nativity scene. Despite the wet and windy conditions on show day, the team was delighted to discover several first, second, and third-place results across the categories.
A spokesperson for Castle View said the recognition reflects the creativity and enthusiasm within the community. The craft group meets weekly to work on charity projects, learn new skills, and enjoy each other’s company, and entering the Royal Windsor Flower Show provided a welcome opportunity to showcase their work.
While taking part was the priority, bringing home rosettes was a lovely bonus.
