You will see from the outside that the windows are being fitted and brickwork is starting to appear. But there is equal activity going on inside.

Partition walls are being erected and we took the first resident to her apartment last week, where she could actually walk into all her rooms and balcony.  The very first stages of bathroom fitting are also underway. This photo is a picture of a corridor leading to apartments.

If you are interested in Castle View and would like to know more we are holding an afternoon tea and site visit on Weds 6th Dec 3pm. For more details please contact Ruth Wilson on 01753 378127 or info@castleviewwindsor.co.uk.

Safety first - at Castle View Windsor Retirement Village

Safety first - at Castle View Windsor Retirement Village

25-09-2017

  • Safety measures will exceed legal requirements
  • Sprinklers throughout all communal areas
  • Smoke and heat detectors in every apartment
  • Buildings managed with 24/7 attendance
  • No Smoking development-wide policy

Castle Retirement Living is putting safety first at its flagship development – Castle View Windsor – by investing in a fire strategy which exceeds all legal requirements. The move follows the recent fining of a retirement home operator for failing health and safety measures after a fatal fire and the tragic Grenfell Tower fire.

Due for completion in October 2018, the new urban retirement village in the heart of Windsor will have a multi-faceted, fire safety strategy to ensure resident welfare goes beyond legal requirements. This will afford greater protection for the 64 homes for the over 55s including 20 one bedroom, 40 two bedroom and 4 three bedroom apartments, together with an additional 72 bed care home.

Additional fire prevention investment includes installing automatic sprinklers in all corridors, in addition to smoke and heat detectors in each apartment, all linked to a central fire detection centre with 24-hour managed attendance in all buildings. Castle View Windsor has also been built with a more expensive concrete frame across its structure for greater fire resistance, while fire resistant cladding will meet all the latest compliance requirements.

Further measures throughout the development will include an active escape policy with three main escape stairwells, and all apartments will also have generous balconies accessible to fire appliance ladders.

Under pinning the safety-first strategy is also a development-wide No Smoking policy which was announced by Castle Retirement Living to not only create a more pleasant environment for residents, but also in response to advice issued by the London Fire Brigade last October; this recommended no smoking at all in care homes – in 2016 alone it identified 120 care homes in London caught fire accidentally.

Castle View Windsor will offer some of the most spectacular castle views in town from its own rooftop sky lounge, bar and garden terrace. One of the largest and most innovative urban retirement villages in the UK, the development will also offer secure underground parking, a café and restaurant.

Comments Robin Hughes, Managing Director, Castle Retirement Living and a local Windsorian: “With not only my parents due to be amongst our first residents, all safety is of a paramount importance to me. The recommendations from the Grenfell tragedy will take time and I want our building to lead the way in fire safety so we have taken the decision to put sprinklers in all corridors and common areas for our apartments.

“By making the decision now – 13 months before we open, we assure all residents of the very best thinking in fire safety – even though we are a low rise building with every apartment having a balcony accessible by the fire brigade. I believe our investment in our fire safety strategy will make it one of the most protected retirement developments nationwide."

“Whilst our No Smoking policy has not yet proven to be legally enforceable as homes and residential care homes are currently exempt from smoke-free legislation, we have found all our 14 reservees to date extremely supportive and committed to our initiative.”

Set in three acres in beautifully landscaped grounds, all floors in the apartment building will be accessible from the basement car park, offering futureproof independent living alongside the care home. Each contemporary living apartment which will range in size from 605 sq ft to 1,115 sq ft, will have its own private entrance.

Situated next door to Windsor Lawn Tennis Club (with lifetime membership included for all apartment residents), prices in the current second phase release of Castle View Windsor range from £375,000- £750,000.

All residents will be able to choose from a range of assisted living services as required and a separate dedicated care home operated by Care UK will provide 24-hour nursing and dementia care complete with generous rooms and facilities.

Castle View Windsor Site Cleared

Castle View Windsor Site Cleared

28-10-2016

The demolition programme and clearing of the Castle View Windsor site have now been completed. This allows the construction project to commence.

The first stage will be sheet piling, to allow excavation of the basement car park. Steel sheet piles, with interlocking edges are installed in sequence to design depth, around the perimeter of the car park area, to allow the central area of soil to be removed.

We are delighted that the construction of the Castle View Windsor Retirement Village is now underway, and will be posting regular updates as it progresses.

Windsor Squash Club Demolished

Windsor Squash Club Demolished

14-10-2016

Only four weeks after work started, the Windsor Squash Club has been demolished.

The site is now being cleared so the ground works for the Castle View Windsor Retirement Village can commence. Castle View Windsor will provide 130 new homes and is split into two parts:

  • 58 Independent Living apartments available to purchase for the over 55s, with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. Residents will enjoy communal facilities including a restaurant/cafe, residents lounge, roof terrace and bar. Regular social events will help to build a thriving community.
  • Adjoining the apartments is a top specification 72 bed care home, which will provide first class facilities for those with a greater care need, as well as enabling residents in the apartments to enjoy additional help and qualified care if required.

The Castle View Windsor retirement village will open in October 2018.

Start of Demolition

Start of Demolition

22-09-2016

Demolition work has started on the site at Helston Lane, Windsor, Berkshire, to prepare for the construction of the Castle View Windsor Retirement Village.

The remaining buildings and trees are being removed from the site, and hoardings will be erected around the area. Observation windows in the hoardings will enable local residents to observe the project as it progresses.

The construction programme will take 2 years and, at its peak, will employ about 150 skilled tradesmen on site each day. Our main contractor, Castleoak, will be keen to talk to local tradesmen as we gear up to the main build in Q4 this year.

Castle View Windsor will open in October 2018.
